Safety training!
The Trojan coaching staff will teach each player how to properly use their gear prior to turning your child loose to hit and tackle. Even the most skilled seasoned player needs to brush up on their techniques after being off all year to ensure that they are NOT incorporating their helmet when blocking and tackling.

Coaching the Trojan way!
Every Trojan Coach is require to complete 8 hours of mandatory seminar/class room instruction annually from the National Football Foundation. No Trojan coach may conduct training or drill segments that have not been deemed appropriate or been approved by the SLRAA. .

While no one anticipates serious injury to occur it is important for every parent to fully understand that football is a rough sport and injury can occur at any given moment even on seemingly slow plays. It is important for every parent/guardian to discuss with their child on an ongoing basis the vital importance to listen to the Trojan Coaching staff at all times so that they can fully learn how to apply proper techniques and thus minimize the chance for injury. Additionally, each parent/guardian should continually stress with their child the vital importance of paying attention AT ALL TIMES when on a football field. Many injuries occur when a player looses their focus on their assignment and they become distracted just long enough to not see the hit coming their way. Please stress with your child every day that they MUST focus on their assignment on the football field and they must forgo the urge to horse play or otherwise cease from paying 100% attention to their surrounding at all times.

Parents/guardians, the most important safety element we can stress is to make sure that your child is playing football because THEY want to play not because you want them too. There is no shame or disgrace to any child who decides to not play football! When a child decides to take that step and to commit to being part of a football team it is special and unique. Your support to them and your communication with their coaches is needed and appreciated.

ABOUT AAU FOOTBALL

IN ORDER FOR YOU TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION AND TO MAXIMIZE THE ENJOYMENT YOU AND YOUR PLAYER ARE TO GET FROM PLAYING YOUTH FOOTBALL IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE SLRAA TROJANS PROGRAM.

AAU FOOTBALL IS A NO WEIGHT LIMIT FOOTBALL FORMAT. WE PLAY BY AGE GROUP KEEPING PLAYERS IN THEIR PEER GROUPS RATHER THAN PLACE YOUNGER HEAVIER PLAYERS ON TEAMS WITH OLDER (LIGHTER) PLAYERS LIKE POP WARNER OR "GRADE BASED" LIKE AMERICAN YOUTH FOOTBALL (AYF).  ALLOWING PLAYERS TO PLAY WITHIN THEIR AGE GROUP ALLOWS THEM TO LEARN IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHEREBY THEY ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT PLAYING AGAINST OLDER MORE EXPERIANCE PLAYERS EVEN THOUGHT THEY WEIGH LESS THAN THEM.

AAU FOOTBALL IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYED IN AMERICA. THE TROJANS TEAMS PLAY AGAINST THE BEST TEAMS FROM AN EXTENDED GEOGRAPHIC AREA WHICH EXPOSES OUR PLAYERS TO THE BEST TALENT TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. WE DO NOT LIMIT OUR PRACTICE TIME TO 40 HOURS OF PRESEASON SUMMER PRACTICE AND 6 HOURS PER WEEK ONCE THE SEASON HAS STARTED. WE KNOW THAT IN ORDER TO TRULY TEACH PLAYERS THE GAME OF FOOTBALL: HOW TO EXECUTE, HOW TO UNDERSTAND, HOW TO READ & REACT, HOW TO GAIN CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITIES & HOW TO PLAY SAFELY IT TAKES MORE TIME.

OUR ONGOING FREE FOOTBALL COMBINES AND CAMPS ALONG WITH OUR SPRING 8 TACKLE FOOTBALL SEASON & OUR SUMMER "7 ON 7" PASSING LEAGUE PROVIDES THE BEST ON THE FIELD CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AVAILABLE TO YOUR PLAYER. ADDITIONALLY OUR COACHES PUT IN MORE HOURS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD THAN ANY OTHER YOUTH COACHES TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. THIS FORMULA TRANSLATES TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL COACHING STAFF AND MANY MORE REPS FOR YOUR CHILD TO LEARN THE GAME OF FOOTBALL.

BEFORE COMING TO THE TROJANS YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NOT A "REC BALL" LEAGUE. WE HAVE BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER PLAYERS AND WE PRACTICE LONGER & HARDER THAN ANYONE SO WE CAN LEARN TO PLAY PROPERLY. WE DO NOT COMPROMISE OR SUBSTITUE FOR EXCELLANCE FROM OUR COACHES, PLAYERS OR PARENTS.  ADDITIONALLY WE DO NOT TOLERATE ANYTHING LESS THAN 100% DEDICATION FROM ALL THOSE IN THE TROJANS FAMILY AT ALL TIMES. THERE ARE NO GAURANTEED NUMBER OF PLAYS FOR YOUR PLAYER. EVERY PLAYER EARNS THEIR PLAYING TIME.

UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL WITH YOUR SHOW OF ENTHUSIASM & TO BE FULLY SUPPORTIVE OF OUR EFFORTS TO TEACH & INSTRUCT YOUR PLAYER TO ATTAIN THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD YOU SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO JOIN THE SAN LUIS REY TROJANS.

WE WELCOME THOSE WHO SHARE OUR PASSION, UNDERSTAND OUR VISION & WISH TO JOIN THE TROJANS!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP
FRESHMAN DIVISION 8< OPEN DIVISION
(Fallbrook, CA) The SLR Trojans Freshman team completed an outstanding season by earning the AAU State Championship title. The Trojans squad coahced by keith So'oto played aggressive mistake free football all season long en route to their championship run. No AAU teams could slow down the juggernaught of fine Trojan players that Coach So'oto and his staff assembeled to fell all foes each Saturday.  The Trojans never relented in their aggressive style of play on either side of the ball allseason long and consistantly made team oriented tackles at the line of scrimmage and forced their opponents to missed tackles by playing team football on every down which enabled Trojan runners to reel off big gains and converting key third downs all season long  We are all very proud of this squad and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and play more great football for several seasons to come.
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP
SOPHOMORE DIVISION 10< OPEN DIVISION
(Fallbrook, CA) The SLR Trojans Sophomore team fell short in it's quest to cap an outstanding season with a State Championship. The Trojans lost to a good Redlands team by the score of 26-0. The Trojans could not get in gear on either side of the ball and played perhaps their worst game of the season. The Trojans never relented but were unable to make tackles at the line of scrimmage and Redlands took advantage of the missed tackles by reeling off big gains and converting key third downs. Offensively the Trojans were not able to make the necessary adjustments to stop a heavy Terriers blitz package. The loss drops the Trojans sophomores to 7-2 of the season. We are all very proud of this squad and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and play more great football for several seasons to come.
Trojans spread Christmas cheer at the San Diego Ronald McDonald  House!

On Thursday, December 23, 2010 a contingent of San Luis      Rey Trojans players and coaches deliverd a full truck load of gifts for the residents of the San Diego Ronald McDonald house. The gifts were collected by Trojans family members stretching as far North as Reverand Mageo's congragation in Long Beach (father of Trojan Coach Jason Mageo & granfather of Trojans player Niko Mageo & Trojans cheer leader Jojo Mageo). The gifts were placed into Santa's Work shop whereby children staying at the RMdH were able to come in and visit with Santa and his helpers and get gifts! The Ronald McDonald House serves the families of ill children so these family members can stay on property and be by the side of their sick loved one. All aspects of the families needs are provided free of cost including food & lodging, recreation and an on site school which is staffed by the San Diego Unified School District so the siblings of a sick child can continue on with their academic requirements while being near thier brother or sister. The Trojans players and coaches along with the entire Trojans family were touched and honored to be able to provide these gifts of love for the Christmas season and we look forward to a long relationship of support to the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego.

Special "thank you" to the San Diego Chargers for hosting the SLR Trojans today at Chargers Park!

All our players, parent & coaches had a great time today working out at the world class facility. The Chargers staff are just fantastic folks and we appreciate their generosity and outreach to our community.
We have been invited to have ou teams play before the Chargers home pre season games this season!  Our teams will scrimmage other AAU clubs on the field before the game and have a chance to get the feel of being an NFL player first hand! Stay tuned here for dates and times along with additional announcements related to this event.
