Safety training!
The Trojan coaching staff will teach each player how to properly use their gear prior to turning your child loose to hit and tackle. Even the most skilled seasoned player needs to brush up on their techniques after being off all year to ensure that they are NOT incorporating their helmet when blocking and tackling.
Coaching the Trojan way!
Every Trojan Coach is require to complete 8 hours of mandatory seminar/class room instruction annually from the National Football Foundation. No Trojan coach may conduct training or drill segments that have not been deemed appropriate or been approved by the SLRAA. .
While no one anticipates serious injury to occur it is important for every parent to fully understand that football is a rough sport and injury can occur at any given moment even on seemingly slow plays. It is important for every parent/guardian to discuss with their child on an ongoing basis the vital importance to listen to the Trojan Coaching staff at all times so that they can fully learn how to apply proper techniques and thus minimize the chance for injury. Additionally, each parent/guardian should continually stress with their child the vital importance of paying attention AT ALL TIMES when on a football field. Many injuries occur when a player looses their focus on their assignment and they become distracted just long enough to not see the hit coming their way. Please stress with your child every day that they MUST focus on their assignment on the football field and they must forgo the urge to horse play or otherwise cease from paying 100% attention to their surrounding at all times.
Parents/guardians, the most important safety element we can stress is to make sure that your child is playing football because THEY want to play not because you want them too. There is no shame or disgrace to any child who decides to not play football! When a child decides to take that step and to commit to being part of a football team it is special and unique. Your support to them and your communication with their coaches is needed and appreciated.

TROJANS VISIT USC!
THE SRLAA TROJANS 12< CARDINAL SQUAD VISITED USC TO VISIT THE CAMPUS . THE TROJANS PLAYERS TOURED VARIOUS SCHOOLS AT USC TO SEE FIRST HAND WHAT COLLEGE LIFE WAS ALL ABOUT. AFTERWARD THE PLAYERS, COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS HIT THE COLLEGE BOOKSTORE AND THEN VISITED THE USC COACHES FOR A LOOK SEE AROUNG THE TROPHY RIDDEN OFFICES! THE SLR PLAYERS SAW ALL 7 HEISMAN TROPHY'S (MOST BY ANY SCHOOL) AND MET THE TROJANS PLAYERS AS THEY TOURED THE TRAINING ROOM AND CONCLUDED THE DAY BY WATCHING THE INTER SQUAD SCRIMMAGE FROM THE SC PLAYERS SIDELINES! ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GREAT DAY AT USC AND OUR PLAYERS HAVE A NEW FOUND APPRECIATION FOR WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A STUDENT ATHLETE AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL!

NEW REGISTRATION GUIDELINES FOR THE FALL 2010 FOOTBALL SEASON.
"REGULAR REGISTRATION PERIOD"- JANUARY 27TH THROUGH MAY 1ST: ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED PAID IN FULL BY SATURDAY, MAY 1ST 2010. REGISTRATION FEES RECEIVED DURING THIS PERIOD ARE: $100 FOR RETURNING PLAYERS (WITHOUT BROKEN SERVICE) AND $125 FOR NEW PLAYERS. (THIS ALLOWS AMPLE TIME FOR THOSE NEEDING TO MAKE PAYMENTS TO DO SO IN SMALL INCREMENTAL STEPS.)
"EXTENDED REGISTRATION PERIOD"- MAY 2ND THROUGH JUNE 3OTH: REGISTRATION FEE OF $150 PAID IN FULL AT THE TIME REGISTRATION IS MADE.
NO PLAYER WILL BE ISSUED ANY GEAR UNTIL ALL FEES ARE PAID AND ALL PAPER WORK IS IN PROPER ORDER. AAU FOOTBALL IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
IN ORDER FOR YOU TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION AND TO MAXIMIZE THE ENJOYMENT YOU AND YOUR PLAYER ARE TO GET FROM PLAYING YOUTH FOOTBALL IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE SLRAA TROJANS PROGRAM.
AAU FOOTBALL IS A NO WEIGHT LIMIT FOOTBALL FORMAT. WE PLAY BY AGE GROUP KEEPING PLAYERS IN THEIR PEER GROUPS RATHER THAN PLACE YOUNGER HEAVIER PLAYERS ON TEAMS WITH OLDER (LIGHTER) PLAYERS LIKE POP WARNER OR "GRADE BASED" LIKE AMERICAN YOUTH FOOTBALL (AYF). ALLOWING PLAYERS TO PLAY WITHIN THEIR AGE GROUP ALLOWS THEM TO LEARN IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHEREBY THEY ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT PLAYING AGAINST OLDER MORE EXPERIANCE PLAYERS EVEN THOUGHT THEY WEIGH LESS THAN THEM.
OTHER SPORTS INCLUDING SOCCER (WHICH PRODUCES MORE SPORTS RELATED CONCUSSIONS THAN ANY OTHER SPORT) DO NOT SEPERATE PLAYERS BASED UPON WEIGHT. NOT EVEN RUGBY UTILIZES THE FORMAT OF PLACING A YOUNGER PLAYER INTO PLAY AGAINST OLDER PLAYERS BASED ON WEIGHT OR THEIR SCHOOL GRADE LEVEL. AAU FOOTBALL IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYED IN AMERICA. THE TROJANS TEAMS PLAY AGAINST THE BEST TEAMS FROM AN EXTENDED GEOGRAPHIC AREA WHICH EXPOSES OUR PLAYERS TO THE BEST TALENT TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. WE DO NOT LIMIT OUR PRACTICE TIME TO 40 HOURS OF PRESEASON SUMMER PRACTICE AND 6 HOURS PER WEEK ONCE THE SEASON HAS STARTED. WE KNOW THAT IN ORDER TO TRULY TEACH PLAYERS THE GAME OF FOOTBALL: HOW TO EXECUTE, HOW TO UNDERSTAND, HOW TO READ & REACT, HOW TO GAIN CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITIES & HOW TO PLAY SAFELY IT TAKES MORE THAN THE LOCAL "REC BALL" LEAGUES PROVIDE. ASK YOURSELF IF YOU WOULD YOU BE SATISFIED IF YOUR PLAYER RECEIVED SIMILAR CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION FROM HIS SCHOOL RELATED TO HIS EDUCATION? NO LESS SERIOUS CAN WE TAKE OUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS FOOTBALL COACHES.

SLR Trojans Players chosen to play in the "2010 California Youth All Star Game"!!!
The San Luis Rey Athletic Association is proud to announce the selection of Niko Mageo to the "2010 California State Youth All Star" South football squad. Niko will be representing the Trojans playing on the 7th grade squad. Niko has been a stellar two way starter for the Trojans since he started playing for them at age 8. Niko prowls the defensive side of the ball as a dominating LB and defensive lineman where he shows the tackling skills seldom seen by players his age. In the Trojans "Tampa 2" defense he plays free safety where he devastates offensive players on every play. On offense Niko has been a standout workhorse at RB where he show his dominance running both inside as a power runner and outside as a breakaway threat. In the Trojans "Tiger" offense Niko lines up at both Slot & QB. Niko is the son of former Oceanside High School & Oregon State standout football player Jason Mageo and his mother is Kim Mageo. Niko is a member of Coach Dan Armentrout & Coach Jason Mageo's 12< AAU unlimited weight football team.
The Trojans are also honored to announce the selection of Moses "MoMo" Mooney to the "2010 California State Youth All Star" South football squad. MoMo will be playing on the 5/6th grade squad. Momo has been a standout football player since he began playing at age 7. He has been compared to his brother, current USC football freshman phenom Dillon Baxter, and is the most complete running back in his age group in San Diego County according to numerous scouting sources throughout the nation. MoMo possesses speed, quickness and the ability to change directions on the spot that few runners ever demonstrate. On offense MoMo has been a dominating receiver taking away many passes from bigger and older defenders with acrobatic catches and athletic dominance. As a runner MoMo often leaves would be tacklers grasping at air while he slashes his way to the end zone. In the Trojans "Tiger" offense MoMo plays Slot and QB. He is also a threat every time he touches a punt or kickoff. As a defender MoMo prowls the secondary tempting would be QB's to throw deep where he usually breaks up the pass or punishes a receiver after the catch. MoMo is the son of Anthoney Mooney & Cindy Mooney and he is a member of Coach Dan Armentrout & Coach Jason Mageo's 12< AAU unlimited weight football team.

The San Luis Rey Athletic Association is proud to announce the selection of QB, John Armentrout to the "2010 Elite 50 Diamond Flight Camp" as selected by Shaon Berry, President of Jr Rank. John was the only local selectee invited to participate in this highly competetive & illustrious camp featuring the top 50 QB's & WR's in the nation by grade level.
John was an invitee to the Jr Rank National Scouting Combine in San Antonio TX held in conjunction with the "US Army All American" game back in January where he scored the highest in the 6th grade group of all national athletes invited.
John will be coached & evaluated by
noted NFL QB coach Tom Martinez
(Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning) and joins the likes of former NFL great Randall Cunninghams son at this camp.
